The Challenge?
- Renewed emphasis has recently been put on the reliability and availability of our power supply. New challenges have emerged due to changing climate conditions, large renewable penetration, prosumer programs, and meeting the electrification needs related to Canadian GHG reduction targets.
- Power outages have been getting more frequent as society is electrifying heating, transportation, industry, etc and generally becomes ever more dependent on electricity.
The Goal?
- Enhance the resiliency of our energy system, from either one of the following aspects:
- Integrated generation, transmission, distribution and grid level storage asset management using novel techniques;
- Load management, energy efficiency, behind the meter load management.
- Propose novel design/engineering/construction solutions leading to more climate-resilient infrastructure.
- Propose solutions to smarter systems and operation algorithms to boost the reliability of our energy supply.
The Solution?
- The project should contribute significantly to at least one of the goals above.
- The project should foster an sustainable and environmentally sound solution to the problems expressed.
- From a consumer perspective, it should be possible to quantify the benefits of the project to society in terms of the availability and reliability of our power supply.
